SCORES

I was inspired to write a piano suite with the intention of orchestrating it in the early summer of 2024. I set to work and by late June had completed a sizable portion of the piano score of what was to be called June Suite. I thoroughly enjoyed researching Baroque suite dance forms and applying their rules to fresh tune inventions. The orchestration came later and was completed in 2025. As it usually happens when I compose, the orchestration informed the musical material, and so the piano score experienced some modifications as I went. June Suite consists of five movements, loosely based on the Allemande, Courante e Double, Sarabande, Gavotte, and Gigue. I remember one day in particular in June of that year when my then one-year-old son and I enjoyed a day at Chicago’s Field Museum which included a picnic on the promenade and a lovely walk around the campus area along the shore of Lake Michigan. There is happiness, simplicity, and clarity in this music. I am quite pleased with the result.
